Weekly home maintenance
The features of your home will determine what your weekly home maintenance routine looks like. However, it might include the following:
Floors maintenance:
Give your carpets good vacuuming. If you have hardwood floors, vacuum them thoroughly with a large dust-mop. Spend 30 minutes doing a small task around your yards such as trimming a tree or shrub, painting the mailbox, or clearing away leaves from the sidewalk or garden path.
Bathroom updating:
Clean a slow shower or sink drain. Spend some time renewing or repairing dingy or damaged tile grout. Remove any mineral deposits from the showerhead.
Kitchen :
Clean out your garbage disposal. You can clean it with ice cubes and baking soda. It will be clean and fresh once again.
Monthly home maintenance
These are the types of projects that we know we should be doing but don’t often get around to. Pick a time and start!
Clean the filter and range hood. This is a common area that we forget to clean, but it can build up grease and dirt over time. If necessary, clean and replace the furnace filter. This will help your furnace run efficiently, keeping utility bills down. Polish wood furniture and dust light fixtures. Wipe down baseboards. To make sure your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working properly, you will need to check that they don’t require new batteries. Make sure your fire extinguisher is fully charged.
Visually inspect your exterior for any problems such as missing shingles, damaged siding or insect nests. You can make a note of the issues and act to fix them!
Home maintenance for the year
These tasks can be scheduled in a way that suits you. These tasks can be done on a regular basis, or you can schedule them for just one or two days each year.
These are some larger tasks you can take on once per year. Clean up your attic, garage and basement. Although this is something that most people hate to do, it can be a rewarding task. You’ll likely find some treasures that you can donate to charity, or sell online.
Let the sun in through your windows and screen! This task is best done in spring but you can do it at any time. You should plan a day to finish one major outdoor improvement project each year. For example, you might want to install a fence, refinish a large deck, patch up an asphalt or concrete driveway, or install raised garden beds. Check gutters and remove any shrubbery or trees that may be encroaching on your home. Install wire grates to keep pests away.
