As we all already know Italy is the home for the world’s renowned wines and every wine lover plans on visiting Italy at least once in their lifetime just so they can experience the divine taste of these drinks without any tampering in between. Here are some of the best wines from Italy and the countries around it.
- Pinot Noir is a burgundy wine that is one of the lightest ones. It has been around since the twelfth century. Its origin is from France and is also one of the most desired wines on the earth. It is from a colder climate and delivers notes of fruit that are bright red like cranberries and strawberries. When looking at it in a glass you can see that it is a bit translucent and is on the lighter side of the red wone spectrum as the skin of this grape is skinnier and lighter in color. This is why the wine delivers comparatively less density.
- The next wine has to be Merlot which is tremendously known around the globe. It is one of the Bordeaux red wines. If it’s grown in colder climates like Italy it would represent your Cabernet Sauvignon but if it’s grown in a warmer climate like Chile or California, you would see more divergence in the aromatics. One of the reasons Merlot is so well-loved around the globe is because of its compatibility with foods.
- Syrah, also known as Shiraz comes from the Rhone area of France or Cotes du Rhone as you might have heard before. It will be called either Syrah or Shiraz depending upon where it was produced or where the grape variety was grown. Genetically it is the same grape it’s the hemisphere that varies. However, unlike other wines, it is more of a ‘drink me now’ style wine. In other words, it doesn’t age well.
- And then we have Malbec which is surprisingly considered nonconventional by a lot of wine lovers and isn’t paid much attention to but it’s one of a kind and deserves to be in your wine rack. There is also a common misconception about Malbec being from Argentina but it is a French wine. For centuries the french used Malbec as a mixing wine and it was not until the 18th century when it was brought to Argentina by popular demand and a climate that best suits it there. While the french Malbecs are lean and tart in their flavor Argentinian Malbecs are bolder with notes of blackberry and vanilla in their flavor.
- Now, just because the majority of people prefer red wine it doesn’t mean white wine is in any way less sophisticated. Matter of factly the white wines can be just as complex and delicious as the red ones. Unlike red wines, the skin of the grapes for white wines is peeled off to keep the high tannins away. With all of that being said you should try Pinot Grigio also known as Pinot Gris if it comes from France but it is originally from Northern Italy. it is a light-bodied white wine bursting with fresh and floral aromas. The flavors vary according to the places it comes from making it more special.
- Riesling is another phenomenal white wine with versatility almost no other wine possesses. It can be very strong or sweet it is called the chameleon of the wine world. The Washington state is known for its dry Riesling while Germany has a lot of ranges for its boldness. It is the best with spicy food as it counteracts with the spice.
All of these four wines are very well known across the world and are very much admired by wine lovers which is one of the top reasons for you to add them to your ‘should try’ list right now!
