The government has set up certain traffic rules and regulations in the nation and it is mandatory to abide by them. Breaking traffic laws is a serious offence, still, hundreds of such violations are reported every day. The most common traffic violation recorded is the case of drunk driving or driving under the influence of alcohol. Drunk driving is a very dangerous thing to do as it imposes a risk on the driver’s life as well as on the other citizens present on the roads. According to section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, if you are caught driving under the influence of alcohol, you are required to pay the penalty or the challan since it is a punishable offence. This rule is applicable in all states including Andhra Pradesh.
A person who is drunk and driving a vehicle cannot have full control over the vehicle and hence to limit the violation, drunk driving cases are subjected to a very high penalty. Traffic police show no mercy for this traffic violation. They usually carry the breath analyzer to verify the presence of alcohol in the blood of the violator.
A challan is usually released against the person found drunk and driving or in the worst-case, he/she can face imprisonment. For someone who is found drunk while driving for the first time is likely to face imprisonment for 6 months along with the challan of up to Rs 10,000. If the same person is caught again in the same situation, he/she is likely to get severe punishment such as a challan of Rs 15,000 and imprisonment for 2 years.

If you are caught drunk while driving by the traffic police in Andhra Pradesh, the BAC test would be done by the traffic police to check if you have exceeded the Permissible Alcohol Limit. If the breathalyzer reports that you have exceeded the limit then the challan shall be issued for breaking the traffic rule. It is compulsory to pay the fine within the grace period. AP traffic challan enquiry can be done by the vehicle owner before submitting the pending fines. For submission of fines, you can either visit the transport department website of AP or visit the nearest police station.
For online mode of payment in AP, follow these steps:
Step 1: Visit the official website of your AP Transport Department.
Step 2: Select the payment of e-challan or traffic violation payment tab on the portal
Step 3: Add either your vehicle number or challan number as well as the captcha code
Step 4: The fines can then be paid online using the appropriate mode of payment
Step 5: A confirmation message shall be shown on the screen after submitting the fines
For offline mode, the vehicle owner can go to the nearest traffic police station or the local RTO office to make the e-challan payment for drunk and drive cases. The concerned authority shall give you the receipt once you submit the fines. You can check the list of Andhra Pradesh (AP) transport offices online to know your nearest RTO office.
