The story of Brushy Man begins in 1820. It all begins with a man called Ramon Estrada, who runs a small lime quarry. One day, he invites his friend Miguel Ponce de Leon to accompany him to the cutter’s market in order to look for good deals on lime. They end up talking to the local “coloquista” or someone from the streets, known as a taster. This man gives them some very good tips about the best places in town to find good deals on lime.
The next day, they return to the cutter’s market to see what Ponce suggested. They find Ponce leaning against the wall with a thick wad of money. He explains that he found a large sum of money stashed in the wall. After taking only a minute or two, Ponce flees the scene. Later that night, Ramon and Miguel discover Ponce’s hiding place.
In the next few days, Ponce and Miguel manage to hide their discovery, but to no avail. On the third day, Ramon gets lucky once again. He stops by an auction house where two men are selling some stolen gold jewelry. One of the men is holding a stall with the price of three hundred thousand dollars. Frightened, Ramon jumps inside his car.
As he drives away, he spots Miguel and Ponce. He dials the number and hears a strange voice asking for a twenty-five hundred dollar down payment. Instantly, he knows something is wrong and that they are not independent Mumbai contractors. Frightened, he immediately drives away.
Several weeks later, Ponce and Miguel are called by an associate of theirs. The associate introduces himself as Mikey. Ponce asks him for the whereabouts of Ponce. Mikey informs him that Ponce has been kidnapped by a middle man and taken to a mansion in a nondescript section of town. Suspicious, Ponce asks Mikey to meet him there that evening. Upon arrival, however, Mikey is nowhere to be seen and walks off in a huff.
A week later, Ramon receives a call from Miguel who tells him that Ponce is in good health and ready to return to work. Arriving at the location, Ramon sees Ponce being led away by three men. Realizing what has happened, Ponce runs off to inform Miguel.
Several weeks later, Ponce is brutally murdered outside of a restaurant. Ramon goes to the restaurant in the middle of the night and finds several bodies lying on the ground. Realizing what had happened, he frantically searches the bodies for clues. Several hours later, while Ponce’s body is being removed for identification, one of the bodyguards recognizes Ponce from his previous employment as an Abu Dhabi independent contractor and contacts Ramon.
