Everyone makes mistakes, it’s part of life, some are bigger than others and some are more costly than others. Making mistakes is one thing, however learning from them is quite another. The great thing about others making mistakes is that they can offer some guidance on what not to do, so, if you’re planning a move of any equipment in the not-too-distant future you might want to bear these in mind;
Compromising between cost and value
Most people have been at a point in time whereby they need to make an important decision and, end up going for the cheapest option instead of taking a step back and considering value for money, if you’re one of those people and you went down the ‘cheap’ route then you’ve probably got a few stories to tell, or perhaps were just lucky. You need to consider how your goods will be transported from one place to another and, with what level of care. If you have heavy machinery, does the company you are looking to use have the most suitable equipment for the job? Do they even have the experience needed?
These aren’t the sort of things that you leave down to chance, especially with valuable goods, if you’re hiring a company then you’d want to make sure that they have the experience, credentials and the correct machinery for the job or, you may as well go it alone and hope for the best. Unfortunately for most, that only really ends up one way, a major headache and a big hole in their wallet as well as not feeling too clever as it could have all been so easily avoided.
Trying to go at it alone
It’s not so bad if you’re not moving anything of any real value but, for those who try to move highly expensive or delicate equipment by themselves in the hope of making a saving, it can turn out very costly indeed! If you’ve never moved anything valuable before then it could be easy to think, it can’t be that difficult, can it? Even if you’ve heard or seen some horror stories in the past, there’s always the danger of thinking, ahh, that won’t happen to me. The biggest mistake of some people’s lives as they figure out too soon, too late that they’ve bitten off more than they can chew, it only takes a slip or a trip and it could all be, game over.
Not doing any research
If you’re a busy person, as most people are, then it may seem more convenient to hire a company based on them appearing at the top of the search listings or, even on the back of a recommendation. Most businesses rely upon recommendations or, being at the top of the search engine rankings, however, because there is so much competition, how do you really know if the company at the top of the listings is any good, or whether or not they’ve just paid out a shed load of money to be at the top. With recommendations, it’s crucial to make sure that the person has used the company and can verify first hand how good they were.
