Thanks to a local company, Perseverance was able to land safely.Sierra Nevada Corporation provided NASA with technology for the mission. It’s the company’s 14th trip to the red planet.
“If our descent break didn’t perform to its specification, that rover wouldn’t be sitting on the surface of Mars,” says Jeff Mobley, Director of Engineering at Sierra Nevada Corporation.The company has eight mechanisms on board of the rover that are used in 17 different applications, among them, a descent brake mechanism.
It’s not the first time the company has supplied NASA with technology, but its one of those missions that remind you how special your job is.
“It’s always exciting when something you basically held in your hand, is sitting on another planet,” says Mobley.
