You are reading this article, hopefully, because you’ve realized that your Facebook account has been hacked by cybercriminals. Maybe you have been tricked into clicking a malicious link that’s infected your computer with malware or a virus, which has in turn allowed hackers access to your PC — and from there, your Facebook account. Maybe you have just checked your Instagram notifications for the first time in months and suddenly noticed someone has displayed a new image on top of the normal profile picture (it’s a common way for hackers to signal that they have gained access to an account).
Either way, you are now reading this article, and I’m here to tell you that there is a solution — one that worked for me and countless others who ended up on the same page as me when they were looking for ways to recover their hacked Facebook accounts quickly.
Why Did A Facebook Account Gets Hacked?
Facebook is the most popular social media platform, and it is no surprise that it is prone to hacking. Facebook hacking can be done through phishing or through keyloggers. In phishing, hackers create fake login pages in order to steal your password and other important details. In keylogger, hackers remotely install a keylogger on your system which records each stroke and sends it to them.
Recover Hacked Facebook Account When You Are Not Locked Out
1. Change Your Password:
Once your Facebook account is hacked, the first and most important thing to do is change your password. It’s easy to do and only takes a few minutes. Here’s how:
- Log into your Facebook account
- In the top right corner, click Account > Account Settings
- In the “Change password” section, click Change.
- Enter your new password and confirm it by typing it again.
- Click Save Changes.
2. Remove All Devices that are logged onto Facebook:
To keep your account secure, Facebook tracks where you log in from and what devices you use (so it can send push notifications). That way if someone logs into your account from somewhere you aren’t, you can tell that something is wrong.
It’s easy enough to check which devices are connected to your account — just go to the Security Settings page and click on Active Sessions. From there, you’ll see all the browsers, computers, and mobile devices that have logged into your account recently. If you see anything suspicious, click on “End Activity” to immediately terminate that session and log those people out of your account.
Recover A Hacked Facebook Account When You Are Locked Out
Here’s how to regain control of a hacked Facebook account:
Go to the Facebook Help Center. Click “I forgot my password.” Fill out the form and click “Submit.” You’ll receive an email with a link that says “Reset my password.” Click on the link and enter your email address when prompted. You’ll receive another email with a link that says “Get started.” Click on this link, then enter your current password when prompted (if you don’t know it, enter the mobile phone number associated with your Facebook account). Enter a temporary password twice. Make sure the mobile number you entered matches the one associated with your account. The code will be sent to this number. After receiving the code, you’ll be able to reset your password and regain control of your account and prevent further unauthorized access.
