The massive Gilded Age mansion and mansion that George and Edith Vanderbild lavishly enjoyed with visitors more than a century ago is now one of North Carolina’s biggest attractions. George and Edith’s grandchildren continue the tradition of hospitality by welcoming guests to the family residence. I have been visiting the historic Biltmore Estate for years and have had the opportunity to visit every season.
The mansions and gardens are beautiful all year round, but each season has a unique experience and is worth visiting again and again. With plenty of dining, lodging, and entertainment opportunities, you don’t need to leave your accommodation. Everything You Need To Know About Visiting The Biltmore Estate base tickets include admission to Biltmore House (timed entry) and garden, Biltmore House audio tour, admission to Antler Hill Village & Winery, free wine tasting, and free parking. These tickets are available all year.
Note: All activities at the Biltmore Mansion require a stay in one of the Deluxe Rooms, Day Pass, Biltmore Annual Pass, or lodging options.
On my last visit, the Biltmore greeted me with two days of ownership tickets and a single-experience press tour. I chose Land Rover Experience.
What to do in summer at Biltmore Mansion
Summer is one of the best times to travel and explore the 8,000 acres. Along the French Broad River there are miles of walks through manicured gardens and manicured woods. The outdoor adventure center at Antler Hill Village offers plenty of fun.
Floating on the French Broad River
There are two types of river cruises available at the Outdoor Adventure Center. The first is a self-guided canoe tour in a single or tandem kayak. The crew will take you upstream, slowly cruising down the French Broad River and finally pick you up. Another option is a guided raft tour. This is not a torrent adventure, but a relaxing float with an experienced guide, perfect for river rafting.
Land Rover Experience
Experience a state-of-the-art Land Rover on a challenging tour with the help of a professional instructor. This is a really fun activity and you get to see other areas of the property that are not on the public map. Learn to guide your exploration style as you overcome obstacles like steep climbs and drops, side slopes, log crossings, and rock slides. Reserve an hour or two at the Outdoor Adventure Center. Half-day and full-day experiences are also offered, but they are expensive.
