The research on talaqnama form or khula papers in Pakistan and child marriage carried out through PLAN International (2015) in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Indonesia discovered that the opposition of young people against child marriages was viewed as causing conflict, disharmony and violence within marital relationships and, sometimes, divorce. Research:
The research had the overall goal of identifying the reasons and effects of talaqnama form or khula papers in Pakistan following children’s marriage in the three different areas in the YES I DO program which are Sukabumi, Rembang and West Lombok Regencies. Particularly, the study examined the kinds of divorce, the causes and effects of divorce as well as the post-divorce coping strategies. In Indonesia, the YES I DO program is in Indonesia is a partnership between Rutgers WPF Indonesia, Plan Indonesia and Aliansi Remaja Independen (ARI).
YESIDO partners:
The study was necessary to help inform the work of these YESIDO partners across the three areas. The study took place in 3 regions within the YES I DO programme, specifically, Cisolok village located in Sukabumi Regency (West Java), Menoro village in Rembang Regency (Central Java) and Kediri Induk village West Lombok Regency (West Nusa Tenggara). The three areas all have an extremely high percentage of children marriage, but they differ in their particularities.
