It’s official: the world is a much more secure place because of Google. That’s right, folks – the Internet giant teamed up with its famous namesake to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their famous computer game, Pac-Man. Called Pac-Man World, this new version has been developed specifically for smartphones and features updated graphics, controls and mechanics. But what does it offer that other versions of the game don’t? Let’s take a look at why you should upgrade to this new iteration of Pacman 30th Anniversary
Play the original Pac-Man game again!
If you’ve been playing the new Pac-Man for the past couple of days, you’ve probably realized that it’s a tad bit different from the original. That’s because the new version has been developed in tandem with a fun new feature that allows players to relive their childhood by playing the original game again, right on their smartphone. The mode allows you to navigate the same stages as you did back in the day, and you can even play the original game with the classic sound and graphics. You can access this feature by tapping the menu button and going to Settings > Apps > Install Instantly.
## Collect all of the Power Pellets
Back in the day, the Power Pellets were the lifeblood of Pac-Man. They gave the ghost population a hearty “WELCOME TO HARMLESS MODE!” (or something along those lines). While the pellets have been replaced by Power Mandarins to better suit modern tastes, the Power Pellets have been replaced by two new types of pellets that alter the game’s rules: Fire Power Pellets and Ice Power Pellets. The Fire Power Pellets make the game’s levels more difficult, while the Ice Power Pellets make the game’s levels much more enticing.
Wrecking Balls have more power than ever before
Remember the Wrecking Balls from the original Pac-Man game? They haven’t gone anywhere – they’re still as useful as ever, and they make an appearance in the new game, too. You can purchase them in the Cash Shop for real money, but you can also find them scattered around the entire game world. These toys have real-life names – the kind you might see your kids playing with.
All of the ghosts are more difficult and craftier
The ghosts in the original Pac-Man were pretty easy – they just had to be, because they were running away from Pac-Man and all he had was a single character to keep in check. The ghosts in the new game, however, are much harder to catch. They use several tactics to elude Pac-Man’s lance, including using teleporters that send you in the wrong direction, making you lose Power Pellets or, in one instance, using one of those gravity traps!
All of the levels are easier and more accessible
Some levels in the original Pac-Man game were a real pain to complete. You might get the “Congratulations! You must complete this stage without getting hit by any ghosts. How difficult are you willing to face?” message, then run into a “Teleport to Here” barrier and have to start the level all over again. In the new game, every level is easier to complete, with fewer stages to navigate and fewer dangers to encounter.
The game is longer, too – and not just because there’s an entire life to spend on it!
Even though each new Pac-Man game comes with adverts that can’t be blocked, you might not realize it, but you’re actually spending longer playing the game each day. One reason is that you’re spending more time in the game world. Another reason is that, like real life, each new version of Pac-Man has a new batch of levels. The original game had 91 levels, while the new game has 101.
It has a few different modes, too: arcade, Vs. Computer and Can you even imagine playing this with an actual life expectancy?
arcade : This is the original game mode, and it’s simply Pac-Man running on a cellphone, with various power-ups and challenges. It’s a great way to experience the original game again, but choose this option at your own risk.

The final mode is survival, which you might have never foreseen. In this mode, you’re given a limited amount of time to eat as many pellets as possible. The more pellets you eat, the more points you earn, but be careful – if you get hungry, you have to stop playing!

Last but not least, we have the two arcade modes – one for new players, and one for experts. There are three difficulty levels, each with different tasks and obstacles. The new player option is a bit more tame, with fewer challenges, but it’s still a great way to start. And don’t forget: every new version of Pac-Man comes with a free game, so you can get your feet wet with the new platformer right away.
