Congress still faces a government shutdown deadline at midnight and it is unclear if Congress will vote before the deadline.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced Sunday evening that leadership from both chambers have reached a deal on the COVID-19 relief package and government funding bill. The “major rescue package for the American people” will be near $900 billion.
Though the full details of what will be in the package have yet to be released, House and Senate Democratic leaders say it will include direct payments of up to $600 per adult and child, aid for small businesses, $25 billion in rental assistance, an extension of the eviction moratorium and $82 billion to help education providers reopen classrooms safely.
