If you’re planning a party, you are most likely on the lookout for a band or some form of musical entertainment to bring an extra level of fun to the experience. There are many approaches one can take to choosing the best musical act for a particular event. Here are a few different types of acts that you can hire and how to know if they’re right for the event.
1. DJ
Hiring a DJ seems like the simplest way to bring music to a party. However, DJs are perhaps looked at less seriously than they should be. It requires an enormous amount of know-how to be a DJ, as well as a great level of monetary investment in equipment, and DJs deserve more respect than they get, all things considered. Having said that, if your party is largely a dance event and you’re looking to get a variety of tunes in the mix, hiring a DJ could be the best way to go. They come in a variety of genres and styles, so be sure to do some research to see who works best for you.
2. Synth
If a DJ is the most common avenue to go down for hiring music at a party, hiring a synth artist is on the opposite side of that spectrum. Synth music is a huge subcultural genre that brings experimental sounds to dive bars and off-the-beaten-path music venues. Founding bands that made it big like Throbbing Gristle still serve as inspirations for this wild and jarring variety of music. If you’re throwing a party for people who are into the more dark and obscure side of the arts and music, hiring a synth artist, or even a few for a compelling set, is a unique way to go.
3. Acoustic Guitar and Singer
If you’re putting together a mellow party of a dozen or so folks who prefer a few simple drinks, appetizers, and good conversation, then hiring an acoustic singer and guitarist could be a great way to enhance the entertainment value of the event. No matter how loud bars and concert halls have become, no one really likes to have a conversation if they have to scream and ask people to repeat themselves constantly. Sometimes soft and atmospheric music is the best option.
4. Indie Rock Band
If you’re looking to get a little louder and a little more rock ‘n’ roll, hiring an indie rock band could be a great option. However, the caveat here is that you’ll need to make sure the party venue has the right set up for the band. They’ll need access to a stage or stage-like space to set up equipment, make sure they have all the proper outlets, and may have special requests based on the nature of their performance that could range from electrical issues to lighting. With this option being more of an investment, it’s best to have a party location locked down before committing to a full band of any kind.
5. Big Band
Last but not least, big bands are making a come back as people long for the nostalgic sounds of Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams, and more. A big band is a great option if you have a big space that needs a lot of sound to fill it up. They’re also excellent for more formal affairs. Acts like Michael Francis Sinatra are excellent choices for events that require a more classic approachment to musical entertainment.
