We know that Mac OS X is very secure and almost impossible to hack, but we still want to make data inside a security folder more protected. You can enable password protection for folders on Mac. This means no one will be able to open it without knowing the correct password. This is especially useful if you have some sensitive data that needs extra protection but not very important. For example, if you save your banking details in a particular folder then you may want to keep that folder secure by using a password so nobody can access or change those files freely.

If Folder Lock doesn’t prompt you for an administrator password, go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General tab and check the box next to “access for less privileged users.” Now Folder Lock will prompt you for a user account’s login password instead of an administrator’s when prompted for a password. This is very useful if your computer is shared by a number of people or more than one person accesses the same computer because only those people who have this login user password can lock/unlock a folder created by Folder Lock.
