- Start with a braiding base. This is simply a braid where you have already incorporated a small lock of hair from another section into the base, giving you plenty of room to work with.

- Braid the hair in section 1 (the section closest to your face).
- Split the hair in section 2, leaving about an inch of hair out.
- Wrap section 2 under section 1, creating a twist around the base of the braid.
- Take section 3 and wrap it under the twist you just made.
