We all know looting is one of the most important parts of any Diablo game, and with that comes a lot of RNG. But Diablo 4 has some systems that try to help with that, and that’s what I want to discuss here.
Gambling Systems
There will actually be a number of systems that let you target loot in different parts of the farm. What you’re looking for is a good place to start is gambling systems. These two gambling vendors work in basically the same way. They will bring random Diablo 4 gear sets for every slot in the game. It’s just that they take different resources.
The first ones to pick up are Murmuring Obols, Diablo 4 Gold you get for completing any event in the open world as well as completing any random event you have in the dungeon, which you unlocked early on. So it’s also very helpful in preparing you as you level up and complete the primary campaign. It can still be very useful when you’re in the endgame and you’re looking for better gear for a particular slot.
It also seems to be great for getting a lot of legendary items quickly. Because you can get the cheapest stuff from vendors and have more chances to get legendary items and get the legendary weapon you want. You can put it on any outfit you want.
And the second provider is basically the same thing, except it’s PVP specific. So Fields of Hatred you go into, which is also a feature of Diablo 4 PVP system, are new currencies that you can find within those fields.
You can then use it on a vendor very similar to Murmuring Obols vendor. You can use this PVP specific currency at random, you can also spend it on random gear per slot, and you’ll be able to get all gear Rarity from these gambling vendors.
You won’t be able to get all unique Diablo 4 items from these vendors though, so some unique items may be rarer. And I think the reason for that is they don’t want you to be able to blindly hunt for open world event resources and get anything unique in the game. They may wish that some of these rarer Chase items were only obtainable from specific harder content.
Whispers Of The Dead
Next we have Tree of Whispers and Whispers of the Dead system. Now this is an end game specific system. After you reach World Tier 3, you also have to complete the major campaign and complete the first cap zone dungeon to unlock it.
Now, once you’ve unlocked this system, it fills up the world of Diablo 4 with objectives to complete. Basically Diablo 4’s Bounty System, they will give varying amounts of random loot. So if you’re looking for more D4 Gold or a specific type of loot, you can do some target farms for different things.
The main reason you do this is to earn Grim Favors for completing any of these objectives. Now once you get 10 Grim Favors, you can take them to Tree of Whispers.
Completing it will reward you, and you’ll be able to choose a loot cache, which will also give you a specific loot slot. You’ll also get some Nightmare Sigils and some other loots. This will be one of the first ways you get into the endgame and really start targeting farm specific loot slots similarly.
Helltide Chests
We’ll encounter Helltide, another endgame system that players can only unlock after reaching World Tier 3. This will cause an area of the game to be taken over by Lilith and her army, and once you’re in that area, you can basically do anything.
You will be able to earn a new currency called Cinders. This new currency will drop randomly after you complete events, kill bosses, or just kill any enemies in the area. When Helltide is active, you’ll find these Helltide Chests scattered throughout the area.
But these Helltide Chests will actually give you a specific Loot slot, and they will be random. So you actually have to find Chests for the type of loot you want to get.
You got the farm specific loot slots you can target in these Helltides from Tree of Whispers, which would be a great way to start your build. We could also target farm-specific loot in Diablo 4 base game.
Seasonal Looting
I have a hunch that the system for future seasons will also implement a way to target farm new loot, and possibly have a new way to target farm all loot. The developers seem to be very aware of this, so they’re allowing players to continue to have a way to target farms with the loot they’re looking for.
Boss Loot
But presumably there will be different bosses or different hard events in the game, and they might also drop specific loot, which has been the case in almost every other Diablo game in the past. So I fully expect that there will be different bosses and maybe even specific dungeons that have a higher chance of dropping some specific loot.
Monster Loot
There’s actually a kind of target farm that’s more basic in the game, based on specific enemy types or factions. Will actually drop loot more often than other quests. The developers say that defeating Skeletons will have a higher chance of dropping Crossbows.
So that means if you want to farm for some specific Crossbows. You might want to complete a dungeon quest that is mostly filled with Skeletons, or go to an area that you know has a lot of Skeletons right now.
In general, someone who is already good at farming loot can end up making a big difference in giving you loot. In Diablo 4, it divided all the different monsters in the game into different Monster Families.
So certain areas can only have certain Monster Families, and certain dungeons can only have certain Monster Families. These mod lines will drop different loot more often than others, which means that choosing where you go to the farm can actually have a pretty big impact on getting the loot you’re actually looking for.
Dungeons might also have some kind of effect like this, where one dungeon might drop more helmets than others, or that dungeon might drop a specific type of loot more often.
Codex Of Power
Even though it’s not directly related to looting. But I still think Codex of Power system also played a considerable role in reducing the number of RNG in Diablo 4.
Now Codex of Power is essentially a permanent unlock system for Legendary Aspects, making it easier for you to create your own builds. So when you complete a dungeon, it unlocks for your Codex of Power associated with their dungeon. It permanently unlocks a Legendary Aspect for you, which can be applied to as many gear systems as you want.
But its biggest downside is that you can’t get all Legendary Powers from Codex. Like many of these targeted loot farms. You’ll know which dungeon you have to complete getting Codex of Power that unlocks Legendary Aspects.
So the foundation is being formed for Diablo 4 to give you more options when it comes to targeting farm-specific loot than many other ARPGs. With many other games in this genre, it usually takes years and years before you can target specific loot or do different content templates that give you different loot.
I just hope it gets better with time. So if you’re afraid of having too much RNG in a game like this. I think Diablo 4 will have a delightful mix of RNG and target farm loot. That’s all I want to discuss. Hope you have a great day.
