You enlisted in the United States’ armed forces to serve your country and develop your character. That, and so much more, was made possible by your military service. It’s time to take the next step and continue your education, a choice that will significantly impact your future. However, you may not know where to begin or how to manage taking classes while on active duty – or perhaps, most importantly, how to pay for it.
However, you’ll need to learn a few things and do some research to make the most of your perks. The University of Maryland Global Campus understands that you have special needs and questions that other students may not have. Whether you’re in the military or a veteran, our admissions and financial aid staff are here to answer any questions you may have and to work with you to develop a career plan and certification for veteran benefits.
Some of the assistance that you may be eligible for as a member of the military community has been compiled here for your reference and convenience. Be aware that this isn’t an all-inclusive guide to college financial aid, and you’ll be better served by contacting the advisor of financial assistance at any school you’re interested in to learn more. On the other hand, the resources listed below can serve as a springboard for your creative process.
Veterans Benefits Certification
The certification form can be found in your online student account after you’ve completed the steps to get started at UMGC and registered for classes.
UMGC submits your enrollment certification to the Department of Veterans Affairs to provide the dates of enrollment and the number of credits for which you have enrolled. Your enrollment in an approved programme and completion of program-specific courses that don’t duplicate prior training is verified by us to the VA.
Through your student account, you can also make adjustments to your benefits and keep tabs on their progress.
Indemnity for Service Members and Veterans
Since its inception in 1944, the most well-known military tuition assistance programme, known as the GI Bill, has helped hundreds of thousands of veterans further their education. Veterans and members of their families who meet certain criteria will be eligible to receive financial aid to help them finish their education.
The Post-9/11 GI Bill
Post 9/11 GI Bill is a wide-ranging education programme for active-duty military personnel, based on the length of time you have served in the military, Up to 100% of the cost of the most expensive public state schools can be reimbursed through benefits. There’s also the possibility that the school you’ve chosen will take part in the “Yellow Ribbon Program.” You may be able to get some of your remaining tuition waived by schools like the University of Maryland Global Campus voluntarily.
Tuition Assistance for Active-Duty Members of the Military
The GI Bill does not apply to any of the military branches’ unique tuition assistance programmes for active-duty personnel. “Armed Forces Active Duty Tuition Assistance” refers to all of these initiatives. Active enlisted military personnel who want to continue their education in off-duty hours are eligible for this programme. To be eligible for graduation from this programme, a service member must have completed all of the required courses during their active duty period.
