You are probably familiar with the concept that a clean room or working space brings calm to your mind and soul. This concept is especially true for bedroom music producers as we work with a lot of gear that has to be connected to your laptop or to the socket. It is hard to be creative when you spend a lot of time every day just trying to find the right cable or untangling cables. Our studio ekmixmaster.com knows a lot about how to keep your space tidy and organized. So, to make your life easier, we will share a few tips that we use ourselves.
Color code your cables
Some cables can be very long, and you will spend ages trying to find the two ends of a cable. To avoid this suffering, you can buy electrical tape in different colors and put the same color on the two ends of a cable. Voila, the problem is solved.
Use reusable ties and straps
As we’ve mentioned above, some cables could be lengthy. But if you work in a home studio your working space is much smaller, and there is no need for lengthy cables. You may want to buy some reusable straps and ties, wrap the cable several times in the middle shortening it to the desired length and use the tie to fix the wrapped cable in place.
Use cable rack or tray
To keep the cables neat, organize them in a tray or a rack under your table, keeping them out of sight and out of mind.
Use drawers
To make things even tidier and hide everything you are not using at the time, you can buy some drawers. They don’t have to be fancy or expensive, any drawers will do, they just have to be functional. It’s convenient to label every drawer according to its contents. That will make your home studio look clean and put together.
Keep everything in a logical order
This goes with the previous point. If you end up getting a set of drawers, make sure that everything you put in them is organized in logical order. Everything guitar-related should be in one place. The same goes with gear related to recording e.t.c.
Clear out your drawers from time to time
As time goes by, you will accumulate more and more gear and equipment, but instead of buying additional drawers and shelves, we recommend that you look at what you already have and sell anything you don’t really use anymore. It is a good way to earn money and clear the space for new equipment. A win-win situation.
Clean your working space regularly
It might be obvious, that you have to clean your studio once in a while. But when you are in the flow and your head buzzes with ideas, it is easy to forget about such simple things as cleaning. However, it is much easier to maintain the order in your studio, than trying to clean it all at once after months of neglect. Besides, clean space will be beneficial for your productivity.
Guitar stands and keyboard racks
These are especially handy if you have a lot of instruments. They save a lot of space on your desk and around it without. Besides, leaning your guitar against the desk will probably end in disaster. So, to be on the safe side, put your guitar on a guitar stand or on the wall.
