In situations where that really shouldn’t happen, a compact, fixed EDC knife is a godsend. These can either be neck knives or knives that you can carry in your pocket.
Why should you have a fixed EDC knife?
First of all, a fixed EDC knife cannot fold. So, your fingers are safe, even when you have to do difficult tasks. But also think about the care: you always have to keep a pocket knife with moving parts (reasonably) clean in order to guarantee the perfect function of the locking and opening mechanism. In a dusty environment, a fixed knife can be a huge relief. Another reason for an EDC fixed blade is legislation. Carrying a pocket knife is illegal in some countries, but a fixed knife of a certain length is allowed.
What makes a fixed knife a good EDC knife?
Of course, not every knife is a practical EDC, even if opinions sometimes differ. We definitely believe that a fixed EDC knife should be easy to carry every day. This can be by using a knife sheath or other carrying solution. Or the knife is so compact and practical that you always want to carry it with you. Otherwise, this list is mostly a bullet point of knives that we, in our humble opinion, are suitable.

The CRKT Minimalist is just as its name suggests: simple and efficient. It has been one of CRKT’s most popular fixed knives for a number of years. If you look at the design and the price, that’s really not surprising. The plastic sheath sits firmly on the knife and comes with a neck cord and belt clip.

Do you need a fixed EDC knife with survival ambitions? Then you are exactly right with the ESEE Izula. You can use it either with or without the micarta handles. It’s even easier without it.
