What used to be the norm a while ago is now known as abnormal activity. Students in middle and high school used to go to classes every day of the week to learn. But with the events of last year and covid-19 creeping in, all classes had to move remote. Now, as good news for most parents, children are going back to the classroom. However, for the people on the road, we need to remind ourselves of the safety tips to take in Los Angeles. Here are some of the approved tips for schools resuming. • Slow down at school zones

During rush hours, it’s normal for drivers to drive at high speed to meet appointments. However, because of the children that have resumed, we all need to start driving carefully. If you used to ride at a speed of 100km/hr, you should try to reduce the rate to about 70km/hr. Once you are approaching a school zone, you should slow down as much as possible.

  • School bus drivers should stop completely

As a school bus driver, you need to become extremely responsible while picking up and dropping students. Some kids have best friends amongst themselves, so they may want to sit together. Some may be in a battle to be the first person to hop on the bus ride. So as a school bus driver, you can’t afford the bus to be in a position that can move at any point in time. Instead, do not open the doors of the bus until you have completely stopped.

  • Students shouldn’t rush before boarding a bus

As parents, we also have a duty to play. You must ensure your kids understand the risks behind rushing to get a bus ride. As much as possible, you have to train your kids to patiently board buses.

  • Other drivers should look out for children catching buses

You may train your kid to learn patience while boarding a school bus, but another parent may not teach their kids. Even when kids have proper training onboarding a bus, they may still board inappropriately. As a driver, you should be on the lookout for any kids during school hours.

  • Cross appropriately

Crossing the road for students should be appropriate during school hours. Students should remember to look at both sides of the road before taking a step. Likewise, it’s safer to cross a road at the designated locations with signs for crossing. Similarly, drivers should obey traffic laws and stop signs while driving.

  • Students should sit all through the bus ride

Driving is an interesting profession, but it’s also a difficult process. At any point in time, the driver may need to press the brakes to reduce the speed or bring the car to a stop. Once a driver hits the brakes, the halt may happen suddenly. If a kid is standing at this moment, the sudden stop may lead to severe injuries. So it’s best for all kids to stay in their seats throughout the ride.

  • Everyone should walk on the sidewalk

As a pedestrian, you have to be a responsible pedestrian. You shouldn’t walk close to the road at any time. As much as possible, walk on the sidewalks already provided on most streets in Los Angeles. This will keep you safe from any accidents or mistakes from the school bus driver.
