Keep reading to get the answers to all of your kratom-related questions.
What Is Kratom
Kratom is a plant from Southeast Asia. Kratom, as we know it today, is taken from kratom trees.
People have been using kratom for far longer than the west has known about it. Most people chose to chew the whole leaves to get the effect of kratom.
Nowadays, there is an abundance of options for kratom consumption. Most often, people buy kratom in powder form once they figure out where to buy kratom. There are several types of powder that serve different purposes (and we’ll go over those later).
People tend to mix kratom powder into foods and drinks, though they can also eat a spoonful of powder dry and chase it with water. Some people chew kratom leaves like gum or brew them into tea. You can also consume kratom capsules.
What Is Kratom For?
So why do people use kratom anyway?
There are several reasons that someone may use kratom. First, kratom is popular for pain relief as an alternative to opioid medication. Someone who’s trying to come off of opioids may take kratom as a substitute.
Some people like to use kratom for anxiety and depression as an alternative to standard psychiatric medication. Some people claim that kratom is also effective for certain types of gastrointestinal issues.
There are different types of kratom that are represented by different colors: red, green, and white.
Red kratom tends to be mild, sedating, and relaxing. Green kratom encourages positivity and white kratom should help with focus. Different strains within each color have different effects, so make sure to read about your product options before you make your purchase.
Is Kratom Safe?
The safety of kratom is debatable at best. It isn’t approved by the FDA and there hasn’t been much clinical testing. Kratom may also be addictive.
That said, kratom also isn’t unsafe, per se, for most people. As with anything else that you consume, there are side effects with kratom. They include:
- Weight loss
- Skin discoloration
- Mood disturbances
among others. These side effects are mild, so most people who consume kratom aren’t in any danger. Just be careful to start slow.
